Work continues on repairing the scenic toll road between Rosarito and Ensenada. The latest update is that Mexican authorities are saying the road will reopen in the fall, possibly as early as September.
In December 2013, a portion of the scenic toll road between Rosarito and Ensenada collapsed in a landslide at Salsipuedes. The road fell as much as 100 feet in some places after seismic activity hit the area. The toll road has been closed in both directions from La Fonda to San Miguel since the collapse and crews have been working to repair the road. Traffic has been diverted inland along the free road. This detour takes about the same amount of time as it did to drive along the toll road, but it’s a windy two-lane road so drivers should exercise patience and caution. History was made last week on May 3rd, when the biannual Rosarito Ensenada bike ride had its course along the toll road that has been closed to traffic since December. See below for photos.
